Virginia Law Women rang in the 1984-1985 school year with a ceremony dedicating the "VLW Memorial Gardens," a collection of potted plants located in the urinals in the women's first floor restroom. The stunt coincided with efforts by the organization to acknowledge subtle forms of environmental sexism at the Law School. The first floor restroom had been converted from a men's room in the 1970s, in response to Law Women requests for more parity in the building's facilities, but the urinals were not removed.
